Alright so hopefully everyone reading this knows that I love to travel. But lets be honest- who doesn’t love to travel and try something new. Traveling is such an incredible gift to be able to see different parts of our world. Traveling can also be expensive. BUT there are ways to make it much cheaper. It’s taken some time to figure out the right way to save money while traveling so here are a few tips and tricks I’ve learned as I have adventured…
USE GOOGLE FLIGHTS.
This is something that Alex introduced me to! So this is basically a giant database of all the flights for a specific date. It allows you to look at the best prices for any location! You can even put in specific dates and explore all different locations to find the cheapest destination! Typically Spirit airlines has pretty inexpensive flights BUT you can only take a backpack (unless you want to pay a bag fee… you might as well fly a more expensive airline if you pay the bag fee).
GET A TRAVEL CREDIT CARD.
YALL you can get so many point from using a credit card. Alex just opened my eyes to this so I feel kind of behind on this little detail but seriously it helps so much!! Most cards offer sign up bonuses of ___ amount of points. You can typically combine multiple cards to get your flights even cheaper. ITS AMAZING! You can collect tons of points by being smart with your money.
STAY AT A FRIENDS OR CHEAP AIRBNB.
Once you figure out where you will be spending you weekend.. you gotta find a cheap place to stay. So when I have a little travel bug, I try and think of a good family friend or someone I could stay with so I can try and save as much money as possible. Alex and I are actually going to Denver this WEEKEND (woo) and found an airbnb for super cheap (aka its 43$ a night… YAY!).
HAVE A PLAN.
I think this is super important when traveling- and I have for sure learned this the hard way. If you don’t plan out your trip, you’ll end up spending way more money than you actually intend to.
So let me kind of walk through how I plan my trips. Since Alex and I are going CO this weekend its a perfect time for me to explain this to y’all! (not going to go too much into detail because I’m going to make a travel blog of what we did).
I always start off planning by figuring out my main goal- hiking, shopping, eating good food, people watching, museums, etc. Make an itinerary of what you want to get done each day. There are honestly so many free things to do in new cities. If you literally just google “free things to do in ____” there will be multiple lists of free fun things to do/see.
Wake up early & enjoy your time in a new city!! Traveling is a total blast. Honestly you don’t know who you’re going to meet. You could end up making a life long friend somewhere.
Traveling is such a gift and we can’t take it for granted! Guys… you do not have to be rich to travel. You just have to be creative and get out of your comfort zone! So if you wanna travel- it just takes effort & time to plan. Make it happen!
Anyways, those are a few of my tips for the day. I can’t wait to share my travel experience in Colorado with y’all.
